A celebration of excess, desire and queer spectacle.

These glass rhinestone sculptures transform familiar forms into objects of seduction, humour and contradiction. Their kitsch surfaces and unapologetic glamour draw on the visual language of camp—where the excessive, the artificial and the seemingly vulgar become a means of expression.

The rhinestone becomes both material and metaphor: decorative, fragile, obsessive and deliberately conspicuous. Each surface demands attention, turning the object into something to be looked at, desired and questioned.

Rooted in queer visual culture, the works embrace the tension between masculinity and decoration, intimacy and spectacle, sincerity and irony. What might appear playful or absurd becomes a vehicle for examining how queer bodies, desires and identities are made visible.

MaxHammondStudio Presents Contemporary Crystal-Encrusted Sculpture – Original Handcrafted Work. This sculpture was made in 2024-2025. It was part of the “13 Beautiful Horses” exhibition in Leicester; reviewed in Corridor8 Magazine in the 2025 September/October Issue

This piece comes from a deeply personal place and intwined with the artists personal relevance and lived experience.

Each sculpture is hand-formed in clay and built through an intuitive, almost instinctive process. The forms are deliberately erratic and subtly phallic—rooted in lived experience, masculinity, vulnerability, and the complexities that sit beneath surface identity. Challenging the norms between art and craft. Exploring the term ‘Kitsch” by embodying ‘craft’ or materials which are deemed as ‘tacky’ or “worthless’ due to mass production.

The artwork is very time consuming and each one takes roughly 25-50 hours of work of sculpting and rhinestoning, to make a sculpture from start to finish.

Every crystal is individually selected and placed by hand. What might first appear decorative becomes something more deliberate: a process of layering, concealment, and exposure. The surface glitters—highly finished, seductive—but beneath it sits a raw, imperfect structure. These works are not mass-produced objects. They are physical extensions of personal narrative. This isn’t just a piece of art or a sculpture - this is a piece of the artists story and upbringing.

Owning one of MaxHammondStudio’s artworks is not simply about acquiring a sculpture—it’s about backing an evolving artistic voice. Each piece marks a moment in that journey, making it as much an investment in the artist as in the object itself. Max has been working in the fine art for almost 8 years having achieve a BA in FINE ART with Honours and MA in Contemporary Fine Art. Influenced by the likes of Tracey Emin, `Louise Bourgeois , John Giorno and Andy Warhol.

Light transforms the work constantly—shifting across iridescent stones, moving between softness and intensity, drawing attention to both form and detail. It’s designed to be lived with, noticed, and questioned.

No two pieces are the same. One of a kind.

Each artwork in hand signed, numbered and comes with proof of authenticity from the artist. Custom Gift Wrapping Included.
